The graph to the right shows sales volume for African tribal art by region of origin. Egyptian antiquities provide a comparison.

Western Africa and "Southern Africa" include most of the nations that the auction sales archives indicated as geographic origin, and Sahel includes nations from Senegal to Ethiopia.

Analysis of the sales-archive data by average hammer price identifies upward trends for tribal art from each of the regions.

The average hammer price of tribal art that originated from nations of the Sahel increased the most over the nine-year period, while the average hammer price of tribal art that originated from nations of "Southern Africa" exceed the average hammer price for tribal art from the continent as a whole (grey line) over most of the nine-year period.
