A survey of the on-line sales archives of an international auction house queried sales by geographic origin and type of artwork. Searches on archives of the past nine years yielded sales volumes as shown to the right.

Annual sales volume of African tribal art appears to show the greatest and most consistent increase.

The graph to the right shows average hammer price and relative trade volume (number of auction lots sold) for each of the five designations.

As indicated by the red line, the average hammer price and trade volume for African tribal art showed the steadiest increase over the nine-year period.
